Michael Fassbender - Movie Star or Actor?

Article

I think that Michael Fassbender cares more about being an actor than being some sort of movie star. The roles he chooses such as HUNGER, SHAME just to name a few are evidence of that. His name recognition that he is getting will probably get him more roles than ever before.  The author saying Americans don’t like “foreign leading men” is rather general.

Any thoughts?

By the way since we are on Fassy Overload at the moment, I will post an obligatory photo of him. I had to counteract such overload by just looking at James McAvoy.

Q&A session after A Dangerous Method in NYFF. L to R: Michael Fassbender, Christopher Hampton, and David Cronenberg. It looks like Fassy’s trying to think of some witty remarks.

As stunning as Michael Fassbender is, his charm and humor seal the deal. He had the best lines and flirty banter with David Cronenberg that would make James McAvoy jealous. Some of the lines he said as best remembered by me…
1. Asked about the Accent and Carl Jung in general:
(I’m going to upload the video of this, but Cronenberg’s line was the best)
Cronenberg: Wow, and here I thought he just showed up and started reading the script!
2. Asked about about why Cronenberg decided to emphasize the relationship between Freud and Jung… basically why showcase two men bonding.
Cronenberg: Well, I mean, you either got male or female… you only have two genders to work with! Unless you include, I don’t know, seals.
Fassbender: *a few moments later* Wait, seals? Why seals? Do they have more than two genders?
Cronenberg: Well, they would have been something… different. Michael, you could play a seal. I mean seals the animal, not Navy SEALS.
Fassbender: *looking all amused contemplative* S-seals? Seals…
(Me in my head: NO NOT SEALS, SHARK!!!!)
3. Asked how much of Jung’s work he knew beforehand:
Cronenberg: *Laughter* Michael doesn’t read.
Fassbender: *Laughter* …I’m a slow reader…
Cronenberg: We gave him a Carl Jung comic book to read.
Fassbender: (Jung) had many books and material… David gave me a few suggestions but I found one—without any help from David—a dummy book, basically a Dummy’s guide to Carl Jung which broke down his points very well.
Hampton (writer): I used that too!
Fassbender: See! It really worked!
Cronenberg: You guys depress me. I thought you knew what you were doing!
4. Another question was asked but Michael was caught up over Cronenberg discussing noctural emissions and bodily fluids as being sensational for the dialogbetween Freud and Jung for the time period… question asked how he tried to capture the era:
Fassbender: I’m sorry, *laughing*, I still can’t get over nocturnal emissions. What is that, a wet dream?
*everyone proceeds to die in the auditorium*
Cronenberg: Michael, come over later to my place and I’ll explain it all in detail.
Fassbender: Understood. David. *pause* What would Caroline say… this time?
5. Fassy notices a whole bunch of people leaving the Q&A:
Fassbender: Guys, we need to step this shit up. Look at all those people leaving!
6. Asked about dialog:
Cronenberg: Speaking of dialog, Michael, didn’t you have some lines in the X-Men movie that came out this summer?
Fassbender: Oh, you know, more dramatic posing and stares. I guess I said a few lines.
Cronenberg: And you wore some nice suits.
Fassbender: It was less the talking and more channeling the constipated metal manipulation… see, I just combined mouth and anus…
Moderator: Now we need to end this because we’ve run out of time…
Fassbender: Best note to end on!
